You're probably like me. You don't mind paying for things you use, things that add value to your life and things that make you and your loved ones happy, safe and secure. You probably agree with me that spending money that basically gets you nothing is a major beating. So, I've put together a super simple list of things you should do around your house over the next couple of weeks to save yourself around $1,000 this year.
1. Buy a few tubes of all-purpose caulk ($1.57 at Home Depot) and re-caulk all of your windows and doorframes. NO BULL, this will save you 10-20% on your electric bill year round. Track it.
2. Call an HVAC person (I recommend Rodney Rinehart @ 469.231.6411) and have them inspect your Air Conditioner before the hot summer months get here and then have them check your heater before winter hits again. You don't have to have the world's most efficient unit to save some real money.
3. Check your plumbing for leaks before you have a major leak. Shut off all sinks, hoses, washer, dish washer etc. and see if your water meter is moving. If so, call a reliable plumber (I like John Nelson @ 972.322.8417.)
If you don't want the extra $1,000 plus then don't do anything, but my goal is to constantly add value for you, so I thought I'd share some super simple ways to keep expenses in check around the house. These all apply even if you are renting and in any part of the world.
