Every year around this time, I catch myself saying the same phrase over and over: “Man, we have so much to be thankful for.” And the funny thing is, I say it especially on the days when I’m not feeling terribly thankful. It’s become a reset button, a recalibration back to truth.
Because even on the cruddy days, there’s still an unbelievable amount of goodness packed into our homes, our families, our communities, and yes… even our real estate market.
Here’s what I’m grateful for this Thanksgiving.
Homes that actually shape our lives, not just store our stuff.
A house is never just bedrooms and bathrooms. A house can nurture a marriage. A house can be the place where your kids learn courage, creativity, or forgiveness. A house can be chaos, a refuge, or both on alternating Tuesdays. Your perfect home might be a terrible fit for me, and that’s the beauty of it.
Homes are personal. Deeply personal. And I’m grateful for that every single day.
The people who trust us with their biggest decisions.
I will never get over this part: families let us step into their story. Buyers, sellers, investors, thousands of people over the years have let our team guide them into the next chapter of their lives. And a stunning number of those folks have become lifelong friends. That is not something I take lightly.
Dallas–Fort Worth.
Y’all, we live in one of the greatest places in the country. Yes, I said it. Yes, I mean it. I’m grateful for the growth, the opportunity, the generosity, the ridiculous number of great neighborhoods, and even the competition we face in real estate, because iron sharpens iron.
A career that lets me blend passion and purpose.
Real estate fits me. I love homes. I love people. I love helping someone gain clarity on a decision that affects their family, their finances, and their future. And I love the mission of helping people steward what they have so they can live the life they want.
The gift of being able to serve others.
This month our team is partnering with Minnie’s Food Pantry to collect cereal boxes, because while some of us are debating cranberry sauce and smoked paprika, other families are wondering where tonight’s meal will come from. We can fix that. And we should. And I’m grateful that so many of you join us every year in giving generously.
The traditions that happen inside our homes.
The turkey hands on the Christmas tree. The “everybody go around and say one thing you’re thankful for” moment. The kids running wild. The adults sneaking into the kitchen for seconds. The loud, messy, wonderful chaos of a full house. It’s part of what makes home… home.
This Thanksgiving, don’t just enjoy your house. Be thankful for it. Be thankful for the people in it. Be thankful for the people who will show up uninvited (I love a rogue guest). Be thankful for the memories it holds and the ones you’ll make this week.
Happy Thanksgiving, folks. So much to be thankful for.
