If you are reading this, you've likely read at least a few other posts about our complete overhaul of our soon to be home. This is where the journey starts to really pay off. Photos below show very exciting progress on floors, walls, counter tops, cabinets, tile, windows and so much more. We hope and pray that we are less than a week from moving in. We'll have to see how the weather cooperates to determine when we will be 100% finished (never) including outside work and everything.
Go away snow.
This picture of Carter getting his first bb gun literally represents the reason we are moving here. I can't wait to be outside with the kids playing on the swing set, shooting the bb gun, riding the four wheelers, playing with toys, working in the garden and enjoying the outdoors with the ipads, leap pads and TV forgotten inside!
The power company sent out contractors to "trim" the trees away from the
power lines. They say trim and I say massacre...
...but at least I talked the crew into leaving me the wood chips to spread around
the play set.
While we were improving things outside, I had 11 cubic yards of compost dropped
off to fill the new raised garden beds that I built with the help of one of our new
neighbors. It is a good sign when your brand new neighbor refuses to see you
outside working without helping!
The kids didn't mind the dirt one bit and since mama was gone getting her hair
done, we went "all in."
This is the final layout of the vegetable / fruit garden. Fruit trees are coming
soon to another spot!
We finally got the granite in the kitchen as well as the sink and painted the
cabinets.
Back splash made a huge difference even though it still needs grout. Two cabinets
still need glass too.
...when the contractor mixed the accent tile from one bathroom with the main
wall tile for another bathroom.
But, I showed up just in time and we found a quick solution before it was too
late.
Then, we got the correct accent tile and wall tile combo for the guest bathroom.
Ignore the huge window cut out that still hasn't been finished. One of my buddies
thought we were trying to make some sort of contemporary art statement. I had
to remond him that we don't really make contemporary art statements and explain
that the weather has been so nasty, that we haven't been able to get outside to
cut the brick out for the new window in the master bedroom. Instead, notice
the wood floors being sanded before they are scraped.

Now, this is what it looks like after a wood flooring expert bends down on your
floor and manually scrapes every single inch of the house. This, my friends, is
what hard work looks like. I was blown away at the attention to detail and the
meticulous nature of actually hand scraping these floors. I've seen it done many
times, but never with this level of attention. I'm super excited to see the finished
result in full scale.
This is what a small sample looked like with a test stain. It is a little darker than
we will likely go. It was also taken on my phone in terrible light.
Weather has, how do you say, completely been horrible for remodel work!
Most of the doors have gone in. Handles coming soon.
The hall bath cabinets are the only cabinets remaining as they were/are solid
wood and in pretty good shape. They are, as you can see, getting a new counter
top, new sinks and a new door where we are adding a sink where the old vanity
was. Why not leave some of the old pink tile for a reminder of where we started?
Here is a shot of the new counters and one of the sinks. One broke during install.
As soon as it looked nice, we had to make a mess again to get the floors in.
The master bathroom cabinets and counters are shaping up as well.
Doesn't even look like the same house.
Next up hardware, stain, final doors, a few more windows, AC condenser, wood
walls, brick, siding, gutters, exterior paint and about 100 other things.
