I hope you enjoyed your 4th of July Weekend and took some time to be grateful for what the holiday represents. Independence might sadly mean less to us than it did for those that struggled to find balance between a new world and an old world with comforts and threats in both.
John Adams, our first vice president and second president, wrote a letter to his wife shortly after independence was won saying,
"Posterity! You will never know, how much it cost the present Generation, to preserve your Freedom! I hope you will make a good Use of it. If you do not, I shall repent in Heaven, that I ever took half the Pains to preserve it."
I hope that you and I make "a good use" of our freedom today and also tomorrow. I pray that we teach our children what a unique gift we have been given by those that paved the way for us and I pray that we teach them to hold it carefully and share it generously.
God bless America.
