I was in Minneapolis last week learning from and exchanging ideas with a select group of the best small and mid sized businesses in America. I consider it a privilege to be a part of this group. Anyway, I had a quick "writer-downer" note that I wanted to share with you in hopes that you'll benefit.
When you face a challenge or have a major goal, you may be pretty normal and you find an idea to solve or achieve it and get right to it. If that idea doesn't work, you may be determined and try another idea. If you are exceptional and unusually tenacious, you may try a third approach if the first two ideas fail. This burns a bunch of time and leads to (at best) very slow and frustrating progress.
Try this simple yet powerful two-step approach:
1. When faced with a challenge or inspired by a goal, write out a list of 10 possible ways to overcome or achieve it.
2. Work on all 10 simultaneously. Make a mess. Make huge, fast progress and in the process stumble on new ideas, opportunities and excitement.
Ignore this if you have everything in order and on a pace you are happy with, but use it and report your results back to me if you like it.
