New Heights Rec Center Coming to Richardson

One of the things I love about living and working in Richardson Texas is how well managed the community is. I can confidently say that I’ve seen few cities or municipalities that do as good of a job making a city something that everyone can be proud to be a part of.

After getting my most recent copy of Richardson Living and reading about the city’s plans to spend a good portion of a $22.6 million bond program on a new Heights Recreation Center, I couldn’t help but be impressed. It’s not that the current facilities are horrible, however, they are outdated and are currently cramped for space. By the time the project is complete, Richardson residents will have two (Heights rec and Huffines rec centers) state of the art rec centers to choose from.

The plan will focus on three main areas of the rec center: the reconstruction of the rec center and the pool, and relocation of the Gymnastics Center. While bids have come back $1.5 million higher than expected, the Parks and Recreation Department still expects to deliver on time and on budget.

The project should get under way later in 2012 and the 15,000 square foot Gymnastics Center will open in January 2013, while both the rec center and the pool will open in May 2013.

Living right around the corner from the rec center, I’m extremely excited to see the project get started and make a huge improvement for the resident of Richardson, Texas to enjoy for many years.

Cheers,
